Aldo
Bloise born in Pisa (Italy) in 1972, is as much
as a self-educated photographer, than taught from its random encounters and
friendships with other artists or photographers.
His work, mainly silver black and white, is essentially composed of
street photography, chasing in a futile quest, the one and only picture
he will never get.
The subjects he treasures the most are certainly the lively streets
of Japan and Italy within their architecture hidden spots and most of
all its people.
Indeed it took him about 15 years of photography to discover that these
two countries shared some of their latitudes and light, but also that
his name was pronounced the same way in its native dialect and…Japanese.
Through these snapshots of genuine stories and moments, he tries to
catch a slowness and pace that we are about to lose but also an intimate
and intricate search of identity between these two countries.
Currently
Aldo Bloise is working on a three part exhibition about Japan, namely
“Kawaii Nostalgika”, “Metropolitizen” and “Iro Iro Iro !” where the
second should take place soon. They also include texts and paintings
of his own which should grow all along.

Kawaii Nostalgica
«In this very little we have in common, I feel at home, I find myself again » Nicolas Bouvier said once about his Japan. But beyond this slowness, this frugality and this silence he loved so much, wasn’t there something else ?
As I faced this same question and attraction I could suddenly feel the nostalgic grasp getting stronger, becoming even more visceral towards this country, now even closer than I could imagine.
Putting aside (for now...) a growing “why”, I embarked on a strange quest, looking for answers which are distant as well as improbable. Nevertheless, this journey feels essential and cathartic, as I’m being guided through a mosaic of memories that I try to recreate, with the help of an atrophied lens or some brush strokes. It allows me to escape in a past which goes sometimes even further than my memories. But no matter, I want to visit all these places and times, which now and forever will be fantasised.
These are my clumsy attempts to go back into the past and try to elude time and reality, even though I know that it will not be possible to cheat my memory, last and only guard of this how-so-much hated temporality.
So…what a delight to bring on board with me as many eyes as I can and to lose them for a few seconds through time, much more than me, and nourish myself from this anachronic myopa I create.
Welcome to my ship, I hope you won’t mind the company of an idle captain, but as time goes by he blunted his sense of direction on purpose…But don’t worry about it, you only have to embark and visit this very Japan I like, its endless summers, its evening light, its rain, the exhilarating whirls of sounds and voices.
Please let go and feel the unpredictable laziness of its clouds, as these are the real fireworks and fearful Children of the land, whose expected games are reflected on the rice fields, on the sea or on the ocean.
Hidden under these simple broad lines, I can now see soft drills marking forever my past and future, nourishing the illusion of an impossible present caught between a peninsula that saw me be born and an island that sees me be reborn.
How much I love this tilled earth and these idealised landscapes, dancing in a everlasting motion as they deliciously affect the reality that yet has to come, and thus, fatefully, the one that has already been experienced.
Finally, on the contrary to one of Matsumoto's heroes, who loved to tell himself during his investigations : “I will find out, I will find out ! “ until he actually got his answers, I think I’ll satisfy myself with a simple : “ I will look for it, I will look for it ! “

METROPOLITIZEN
Before dwelling upon the hidden kingdom of Japanese metropolis, allow me to make some further introductions.
Ohayo *! You, citizens, you elegant, dynamic, eccentric and merrymakers people, you hedonists among hedonists wearing traditional garments, secular coveralls or label suits, you who still live according to the celebrated rhythm of the seasons.
Unremitting vibrations in an unmatched human stream, Tokyo, Yokohama, Ôsaka, Kobe, Kyoto now form together a coastal conurbation whose growing promiscuity is neither frightening nor quite oppressive.
This multitude chose early to embrace a fleeting architecture with a changing - if not pleasantly discordant - nature. It sprawls quite naturally through countless microcosms and modules, close to your kitchen or living room, bringing you this much craved privacy as well as the comfort of voices that have become familiar out of habit or loneliness.
For if you can be dissolved into a sweet and voluntary dullness by the sheer number, sometimes it can definitely outrun you, leaving you behind on the plateform long after the last train.
Our journey now continues in the heart of these colorful alleys and arterial streets, endless and aimless meanders, and will begin in Tokyo, legitimate and undisputable daughter of Edo, then cut across Japan. For you, this first - somewhat arranged - rendez-vous will wear a sensual evening dress suitable for light-hearted gallantries and maybe even for some lovers’ foreplay...
*Good morning in japanese
If the upcoming mystery will show itself through colors essentially borrowed to dreams, Metropolitizen has to provide a slight inflection in this sense. An extra voice in the flow of sounds and fragrances familiar by now - will be added to this growing creation.
Shinjuku, central neighborhood-town of the capital city, will be your starting point and its first unnamed citizen will come with you. I am confident that she will know how to guide you through the sweet maze of these cities and, with her single-minded stride, how to spirit you away in the recesses of your imagination, memories or dreams.
